This race was super nice, because it was a little closer to home. Although that was about the only thing that would be called “easy” about it! It was VERY dusty! Since it was threatening to rain all day, the humidity in the air helped it settle a bit faster, improving visibility. But that did not stop the “Moon Dust!” If you are new to racing, this particular substance is “otherworldly!!!!” There is really no other way to describe it. If you put your foot into it, it disappears without a trace. But you can’t feel it! Moon Dust is very difficult to race in, due to the hidden obstacles that hide in it and the lack of traction. There were quite a few injuries this weekend. Including a girl I raced with, that broke her ankle!

The track was 8 miles long, after having to cut a few hills out, due to track conditions. It is one of the most beautiful properties we race! The SORCS people did a great job of making the track flow well, while adding different types of terrain throughout.

This was my first race with mousse bibs! (foam piece that goes in your tires, instead of inner tubes) They did great! It took a bit to get use to the added weight, and the way they don’t bounce as much. I realized this, thankfully, before the race. As I was going over a fallen tree in the track, instead of hitting it and popping the front tire off it, it stopped dead. So you definitely have to load your forks more if you’re wanting the same response. After my husband adjusted some of the setting in my forks and rear spring, I had a much better response. But I overall liked them!

Looking forward to the next race!
